In order to use one of the activities below as an EPIC project, each student has to complete a project proposal form and have their advisor sign it. They must also follow up with the advisor, documenting that they accomplished enough in that activity to merit credit for the EPIC Project. Sponsors of individual events must verify acceptable participation.
Science fair has always been an integral part of school. Over the past few years, the organization has recognized the importance of the creative design aspect of engineering. They have renamed the Science Fair to the Science and Engineering Fair. There are multiple categories to enter. Details for the fair can be found at the Mobile Regional Science and Engineering Fair website. This project is a mandatory part of any Advanced Placement Science class offered in Mobile County. Freshmen and Sophomores who are not in AP science courses are also encouraged to participate. In 2006 a freshman from Davidson won a full scholarship to college for his project.
Every student in English 12 has to complete a Senior Project. If this project has a math, science or engineering basis, it may count as an EPIC Senior project. The English Department guides this project and provides all of the details for its successful completion.
BEST Robotics is an annual engineering competition that involves around 50 students. Those who have an active roll in the competition can use this experience as their EPIC project. For more information on previous competitions, see the Robotics Website.
EPIC Students who train, practice, and compete in a local, state, or national math competition can use that experience as an EPIC Project. These can be mail-in tests or team competitions. The advisor for that team must verify adequate participation.
